Fetal Therapy Simulation Course

FETAL THERAPY SIMULATION COURSE - (COURSE FULL)

Wednesday 16th November, 2016            08:00 -17:00

This intensive full-day course will be offered offsite at the Surgical Skills Centre in Mount Sinai Hospital, Toronto on the day preceding the 5th International Fetal  Growth Meeting.

Space will be strictly limited to 20 participants, and registrations will be taken on a first-come, first-served basis. There will be an additional registration fee for this course.

Fetal interventions are becoming increasingly less invasive, and require training and experience for optimal results. Simulation provides an excellent opportunity to explore these techniques in detail, to gain practical “hands on” experience with the instruments and procedures and to receive feedback on one’s performance and the avoidance of complications. Our faculty are all experienced fetal medicine practitioners from some of the world's leading fetal medicine centres. Procedures will be performed using lifelike maternal and fetal simulation models. This course is suitable for maternal fetal medicine physicians and practitioners performing fetal interventions. Participants will also be provided with the means for sharing and discussion of challenging cases in the future.

Stations will cover the following areas:

1.       Selection and use of fetoscopic equipment

2.       Fetoscope insertion: Where and how. Seldinger technique & direct entry.

3.       Fetoscopic laser of anastomoses in anterior & posterior placentas

4.       Fetoscopy complications

5.       Placental dye  injection studies

6.       Fetoscopic tracheal balloon (FETO) insertion & removal.  Neonatal airway management

7.       Fetal shunt (chest & bladder) insertion

8.       Cord Occlusion techniques:  Bipolar forceps, Radio Frequency Ablation (RFA), Interstitial laser

A course dinner on Wednesday evening will form an integral part of the experience for all participants and faculty.
